Introduction to Kushinagar,the Great Parinirvana Place

Introduction

Kushinagar, district of the eastern Uttar Pradesh, is known for its cultural heritage all over the world. It is located around N.H. 28 being 52 km east from the Gorakhapur,Uttar Pradesh and one of the holiest places for the Buddhists. It is the place where Lord Buddha passed away at this place near the Hiranyavati River and was cremated at the Ramabhar stupa. it is an International Buddhist Pilgrimage center.
The followers of the Buddhism, especially from Asian Countries, wish to visit this place at least once in their lifetime.In ancient time, It was once a celebrated center of the Malla Kingdom.


How to reach?

It is located near Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, Kushinagar has good transport network by air, road and rail.


By Air

The nearest airport is Gorakhpur that is 45 kilometers from Kushinagar. So it is advisable to opt some other transport.
However, There is a proposal to develop Kushinagar Airport into a major international Airport has been granted by Indian Parliament and fund has been allocated by Union government.It is also called Kasia Airport and is situated near Kasia i.e. 2 Km from Kushinagar.It will be a great move to encourage Kushinagar Tourism.


By Road

Kushinagar is situated on the N.H. 28 and therefore it is well connected with other parts of the state. You can get the buses for this from cities having airports like Delhi,Lucknow,Varanashi etc.Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation provides buses for travel from these locationa to Kushingar via Gorakhapur.


By Rail

The nearest railway station is Deoria,it is 31Km form the Kushinagar.This station is connected to Varanashi,Allahabad,Gorakhapur etc.But the best station via reach here is Gorakhpur Junction that is 53 kilometers from Kushinagar. Gorakhpur is the headquarter of North Eastern Railways and linked to almost all important destinations. Gorakhpur is connected directly to cities like Mumbai, Delhi,Gaziabad, Lucknow, Cochin, Barauni, Kolkata, Lucknow, Agra and Jaipur among others. You can find trains on http://www.indianrail.gov.in/

In Kushinagar, itself there are hotels like NIKKO LOTUS ,Hindu brila Buddha Dharmashala, Nepalese Dharmashala and The UP Tourism accommodation, the Pathik Niwas is also quite good choice.
